Gemini sets new world record with Bitcoin lightshow featuring 1,000 drones

On March 13 at 8:10 p.m., South by Southwest, or SXSW, in Austin, Texas, will host a drone show to celebrate the launch of the Bitcoin Strategic Reserve, which President Trump has signed an executive order to create.

The drone show lasted 20 minutes and featured a line of 1,000 carefully selected drones forming the iconic bitcoin symbol that lit up the night sky. The drones were built by Fort Worth, Texas-based Sky Elements, which already holds 12 Guinness World Records.

On March 14, Gemini's official account posted a photo of the bitcoin-themed drone show, along with a photo of the certificate the company recently received from Guinness World Records, titled "Proof of Record." "The largest aerial display of a currency symbol created by multi-rotor/drone technology will be performed by Gemini (USA) in Austin, Texas, US, on March 13, 2025," Guinness wrote on the certificate.

The bitcoin symbol wasn't the only thing on display during the light show. The drones also produced visual effects, such as spaceships taking off, an astronaut planting a US flag on Mars, and a giant woolly mammoth.

The woolly mammoth, created by renowned multimedia artist Matt Griffin, is a continuation of Gemini's previous effort, when co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss participated in a $15 million funding round for Colossal Biosciences, an anti-extinction startup that aims to genetically modify living creatures to resemble extinct species like the woolly mammoth.
